Saying Goodbye to ISTEP+ Testing at the High School Level
Our building is also entering a New Era as a result of the building renovation project. Construction is in full operation since the end of school this past year. We are expecting the art rooms and the NJROTC classrooms to be completed by September 1st, and Phase One (two-story rotunda, band and orchestra rooms) is still slated to be completed by April 1, 2009. One change you will notice immediately is the lack of student parking that will be available this year. This is a concern and we will be monitoring this situation very closely during the first month of school. Hopefully, we will not have to limit the number of student drivers during the school year.
Construction UpdateIf you have visited our school lately, you have probably observed that we are now in the new art rooms. The September wind storm has set our construction schedule back a few weeks, but we are still optimistic about making the April 1st target date for completion of Phase One. Phase One consists of the two-story classroom/administrative wing addition, rotunda, and our band and orchestra rooms. Keeping our fingers crossed, we’re hoping that by October 26th we will have access to the new locker rooms, NJROTC rooms, and the corridor that will allow direct access from the athletic end of the building to the academic wing. We are still surviving the shortage of student parking spaces and we will continue to monitor this situation throughout the school year. Our goal remains to not limit the number of student drivers during the school year. We certainly appreciate our students and their cooperation this year with the parking situation.
Limited Seating for GraduationThis year’s senior class, with 454 students, is the largest to ever graduate from Floyd Central. It is approximately 90 students larger than a typical graduating class. I mentioned during Open House and during our class assemblies that the seating capacity in the gym will not allow us to give the traditional eight tickets for commencement to every graduating senior. Therefore, each graduating senior will receive six tickets for commencement. I hope you understand our dilemma. Many of you will be able to get an extra ticket(s) from other FC seniors who will not need all six of their tickets. As in previous years, we will be broadcasting the graduation ceremony live in the auditorium. Information about getting on a waiting list for extra tickets will be released in May.
We have had a good start to the school year. I hope to see you at many of our upcoming school events.
