![]() Here's how to configure your AOL to run via the Internet:
Connect to the Internet as you normally would (it must be a SLIP or PPP connection for AOL to work; SEI Data and Venus Net use PPP connections). Start AOL and click SET-UP on the Sign-on screen, then click CREATE LOCATION. Call the location TCP/IP, then skip down to the NETWORK box. Select TCP/IP and then SAVE and exit Set-up.
You can dial up the Internet connection number, establish a connection, then launch AOL and have it use that connection.
Once you have established a connection with your ISP, toggle back to AOL and click on the sign on button as you normally would. AOL will connect using your ISP connection.
About TCP/IP
TCP/IP is a communications format for transferring data on a network. You can use TCP/IP (if it is available on your computer) instead of your modem to connect to America Online at no extra charge. Connecting to America Online with TCP/IP is often faster than the usual modem-based connection process, and it will not interfere with your use of other TCP/IP tools like Netscape(c).
If you have a local area network (LAN), ask your system administrator if you have TCP/IP capabilities.
To connect via TCP/IP:
Note: for AOL to run over your ISP's connection, you must connect to your ISP before you open the AOL application.
