General Windows 95 configuration is rather lengthy, but it does not involve anything too complex... The following page provides a step-by-step walk-through of configuring Windows 95 for SEI Data.

  1. From your desktop double-click on My Computer. Now double-click Control Panel,and look for an icon entitled Network -- double click this icon. You will be taken to the Configuration tab. Where it says, The following network components are installed: you should see at least Client for Microsoft networks, Dial-Up Adapter and TCP/IP. You may see other components as well, do not worry about these. If you do not see Client for Microsoft networks, Dial-Up Adapter and TCP/IP proceed to step 2... If you already have these components installed, you may skip to step 3...

  2. If the Client for Microsoft networks, Dial-Up Adapter and TCP/IP are not installed, you will need to add these components. You may need your Windows 95 CD-ROM or disks for this procedure... Click the Add button. Where it says, Click the type of network component you want to install: double click on Client. Now select Microsoft from the Manufacturers: column. and double click Client for Microsoft networks in the right column. Click the Add button double-click on Adapter. Now, select Microsoft from the Manufacturers: column and double-click Dial-Up Adapter in the Network Adapters: column. This will install the Dial-Up Adapter on your computer. It may also install TCP/IP. If it does not, click Add. Double-click Protocol, select Microsoft from the Manufacturers: column and double-click TCP/IP from the Network Protocols: column. When the Dial-Up Adapter and TCP/IP are installed on your computer, proceed to step 3...

  3. Double-click TCP/IP. Under the IP Address tab ensure that Obtain an IP address automatically is selected. Click in the WINS Configuration tab, and make sure Disable WINS Resolution has a dot by it. Now click on the Gateway tab. There should not be any installed gateways. Now click on the DNS Configuration tab. Make sure that DNS is disabled.

  4. Click OK at the bottom of the current window. Windows 95 will copy some data files to your hard disk and ask to restart your system... Answer Yes. When Windows 95 reboots, proceed to step 5...

  5. If Control Panel is still open, you may close it... Now goto My Computer. Look for an icon entitled Dial-Up Networking. If you do not have a Dial-Up Networking icon, proceed to step 6... If you have a Dial-Up Networking icon, double-click it and proceed to step 7...

  6. If you do not have a Dial-Up Networking icon, we need to install Dial-Up Networking on your computer. You may need your Windows 95 CD-ROM or disks for this procedure.Double-click Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. Click on the Windows Setup tab anddouble-click on Communications. Put a check by Dial-Up Networking, click OK at thebottom of this window and click OK at the bottom of the next window as well... Restart your computer and proceed to step 7...

  7. If this is the first time you have accessed Dial-Up Networking, you will have get awelcome message... click Next.... Once you have clicked next (or if you have other existing connections) you will need to click on Make New Connection. Where it says Type a name for the computer you are dialing: type in SEI Data. Windows will usually detect the proper (or the most-recently configured) modem for you... Click Next and type in your local access number. Click Next once again, and click Finish.

  8. Right-click on your new SEI Data icon and then select Properties from the pop-upmenu. Under the General tab, remove the check (if it is checked...) from Use country code and area code. We are dialing a local number so this option just slows us down. Click Configure, and then click the Options tab. The only thing that should be checked is Display modem status. Now click on Server Types. Type of Dial-Up Server: should be set to PPP: Windows 95, Windows NT 3.5, Internet. Under Advanced options: only Enable software compression should be checked. Only TCP/IP should be checked under Allowed network protocols:. Now click on the TCP/IP Settings button. Ensure that there is a dot by Server assigned IP address at the top of the window. Toward the middle of the window ensure that there is a dot by Server assigned name server addresses. Both options at the bottom of the window (Use IP header compression and Use default gateway on remote network) should be checked. Click OK until you are back to Dial-Up Networking.

Your system's Network Control Panel and the SEI Data Dial-Up Networking connection are now configured for SEI Data. To get online simply double-click the SEI Data icon. You will get a Windows 95 Connect To screen. Put in your assigned username where it says ìUsernameî, and your password where it says ìPasswordî. If you want it to remember your password put a checkmark beside ìRemember passwordî if this option is available to you. Now all you have to do is connect. Shortly it will tell you that you are connected.

You are now online! Double-click your browser, email client, etc. to start utilizing your SEI Data Internet connection.
