The Floyd Central High School Handbell Program is one of only a handful of public high school handbell organizations in the state of Indiana. The ensemble was formed in 1997 under the direction of Angela Vaughn Hampton. It began as a one semester course, but has grown into two separate ensembles which rehearse each school day. Highlander Bells is our newest group, consisting of 14 freshmen and sophomores. The Bronze Ringers is an advanced ensemble composed of sophomores through seniors. Most of the ringers have participated in school handbell groups since 5th grade. Notable performances include playing in the American Pavilion at EPCOT Center in Disney World in the summer of 2002 and performing the opening concert for the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers Area V Festival in Lexington, Kentucky in 2003. The group released a CD in the fall of 2004 entitled Caliphony and Cacophony. The CD contains a variety of music, ranging from classical orchestral literature to original handbell compositions to Christmas music. The ensemble plays on a 5 octave set of Schulmerich handbells and a 5 octave set of Schulmerich chimes.
